I am Professor of Criminology at the University of Plymouth, where I have worked since 1999. My commitment to the University and academic enterprise has informed my nationally and internationally recognised profile as a scholar, researcher, and evaluator. My work has broadly engaged with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in relation to social harms. My research specialism has focused on the needs and challenges faced by Gypsies, Travellers, and Roma. I have particularly worked to better understand and evidence how the harms of hate have impacted their lives.

As a critical criminologist, with twenty-five years of experience in teaching and research I have significant expertise in research methodologies, with a particular interest in how evaluation can support organisations to flourish through provision of evidence-led services. My research has been acknowledged within the UK Research and Innovation Research Excellence Framework as having an impact nationally and internationally on policy and practice.

My research has been funded by the European Commission, the Economic and Social Research Council, the Home Office, by local governments and their associated third sector agencies. I have subsequently reported this work in local, national, and international publications with the aim of informing conversations in public, policy and academic spheres. My career has been dedicated to working with communities and organisations for social justice.
